Guest List: Caitlin Moran

Get to know the editorial director of Glitter Guide

Today we announce a new series, Guest List, a monthlong feature in which the hippest ladies and gents in beauty, fashion, food, and home let us in on their day-to-day.

We kick things off with Glitter Guide’s editorial director, Caitlin Moran. Over the next four weeks, she’ll spill the contents of her makeup bag; give us a tour of her downtown Annapolis, Maryland, home; and share her favorite finds from around the Web. But first, get to know a few things about the whip-smart gal behind the glam.

Finish this sentence: If I weren’t a full-time blogger, I’d be
… an event and wedding stylist. I love creating tablescapes and putting on events.

You’ve been blogging since 2009. What’s been your favorite experience?
Probably the first few seasons of Fashion Week I attended, going to fancy dinners with brands and sitting at shows. But getting to inspire people on a daily basis is truly the most rewarding.

In your years of blogging, which post is your favorite and which has the most views?
Our beauty and shopping roundups are always the most visited — and are never that fun to put together! My favorite posts are the entertaining stories, namely a Thanksgiving one that had several easy DIYs.

Describe your work uniform.
Most days you’ll find me in leggings, cozy sweatshirts, and moccasin slippers. When I have to shop for shoots or go to meetings, I’ll wear skinny jeans, ballet flats, and a blazer.

Any writing rituals?
I have a big bulletin board where I keep index cards with all my story ideas. I keep the cards in my bag, so I always have them on hand.

And a website you visit regularly that might surprise people?
I get sucked into YouTube beauty tutorials.

The Glitter Guide has more than 1.2 million Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook followers. What’s your philosophy on oversharing?
We don’t really have a philosophy on it. People like to see our images, so we continue to share. We try to spread them out throughout the day and also be mindful to share cool things we find online and not just promote our own work.

Take us to your happy place.
Taking a walk along the water in my neighborhood with my fiance [Austin] and our puppy [Sullivan] during that golden hour we don’t get in the winter.

Any New Year’s resolutions?
To be more present in my conversations, power down at 7 p.m. nightly, learn calligraphy, and read more books.

What’s the last book/movie/song that made you cry?
My fiance and I are starting to pick out wedding songs, and I recently teared up when he played “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” by My Morning Jacket.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I’d love to be bicoastal and spend half of the year in California (Napa, SF), to be near family and work (where GG’s founder, Taylor [Sterling], is based), and spend the other half split between NYC and Maryland.

What’s the best advice anyone’s given you?
“Follow your heart.” It sounds cheesy, but I always think about it when faced with a tough choice — and I often give this advice to friends over everything from serious career moves to whether they want to go on a first date. Just follow your gut and go with your heart.
