MisterWives is our must-hear for the New Year

Comprising lead singer Mandy Lee (who studied opera), Etienne Bowler (on drums; pictured, right), and bassist Will Hehir (pictured, left), New York-based MisterWives released its debut EP, Reflections, today. Lee’s vibrant voice is responsible for our bright disposition — it feels like one part Ellie Goulding, one part Alex Winston (another favorite musical discovery).

We’re also digging the retro rock ’n’ roll vibes on Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks’s latest, anticipating a February album from singer Angel Olsen (“Forgiven/Forgotten” kicks ass), and daydreaming to a song from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
