Guest List: Nastia Liukin

Get to know the girl behind the gold

nastia liukin!

Glitter Guide’s Caitlin Moran rocked Guest List last month. And now she’s passed on the torch.

To Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin. During the next few weeks, the ballerina of the balance beam dishes on all things entertainment. Get to know her below, then stay tuned for binge-worthy TV, her favorite movies, and chance meetings with Kerry Washington and Hayden Panettiere. Plus, she’ll share the contents of her beauty bag (hint: no more glitter). And did we mention it’s all while broadcasting live from Sochi?

Hope she packed her Wheaties.

q&a!

So: Sochi! Tell us what you’ll be doing there.
I’ll be working for NBC, providing an inside perspective on being at the Olympic Games — so going around the city and exploring and also doing some fun interactive pieces with some of the events, sports, and some of the athletes, too.

What are you most looking forward to?
I’ve never really been on the other side of things; I’ve just been a competitive athlete. So I think it’ll be a lot of fun because I love the Olympics — the energy and just everything. So having a little less pressure and a little less nerves — it’ll be fun to really enjoy. Not that I don’t enjoy it when I’m competing, but this will just be a different aspect of it.

Favorite event?
Always figure skating.

You’re from Texas. Tell us what you miss most about home? Something New York just doesn’t have?
The people. I just miss the Southern hospitality. Back at home, I’ll be running in the park and everyone running by will wave or say “Good morning” or “Hello” or smile.

Last thing you saw in a theater?
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Who would play you in a movie?
Kristen Bell.

Good choice. Kristen Bell sings, too. Can you sing?
I don’t. You know, someone else asked me that.

You sound like you could carry a tune.
No. No way. I wouldn’t even want to try.

Reading any books?
Secrets to Happiness.

Most played song on your iPod?
Beyoncé, “XO.”

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Fruit. Specifically, berries. But I probably should have had a little more.

Breakfast of champions.

Tune in to the Olympics tonight, 8 p.m. ET, on NBC. To keep up with Liukin as she explores Sochi, follow her on Instagram.
