Backstage at Libertine

Smoky cat eyes, glitter nails, and faux bobs

We take tips from anyone who makes morning-after style look good. And the gals backstage at Libertine could teach a master class.

Kérastase stylists created disheveled faux bobs, meant to replicate the look of hair tucked into the back of a coat on a cold day. First, they spritzed texture spray at the roots, working in one-inch sections from the top to the back of the head. Dry shampoo and good, old-fashioned back-combing added volume. Then the stylists plaited a small braid at the nape of the neck, pinned it horizontally, and used it to anchor bobby pins while tucking strands under, leaving loose, undone pieces in front.

Butter London makeup and nail artists devised a jet black-smoky cat eye hybrid by drawing a thick, upturned line above the lashes and smudging powder shadow over top. They gave models textured manicures by layering black, silver, and confetti polishes on long, oval-shaped press-ons. Craft store-glitter tips made it look like the girls had just dug through a pile of diamonds.

Some people just know how to have a good time.
