Single Room Occupancy

It’s getting late. You’re in midtown. On the west side. Your mission: Find a bar. But not just any bar. It must be the perfect undiscovered hideaway. (In other words, anything but a hotel bar packed with cosmo-slurpers in corporate drag.)

Wait a minute. Midtown? Are you nuts?

No. And you’re in luck. Single Room Occupancy is a sleek, elegant, candlelit speakeasy where the swill is eclectic (cool breweries, small vineyards) and the population-control policy is strict (locked door, buzzer entry). (Remember Milk and Honey?)

The owner was reluctant to let the address out of the bag. And even with coordinates, it’s a challenge to find. (You were expecting a sign on the door?)

Just do us a favor and keep your lips sealed. This is our little secret.

Single Room Occupancy, 360 West 53rd Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues (212-765-6299). Open after 8 p.m.
