Sick of horrible dates? Had enough torment from the opposite sex? Join the club.
Kissing Jessica Stein, which opens today, is the movie for any woman who’s ever thought, If only I could date my girlfriends, my love life would be so much easier … and for all the men who’d love to watch.
The premise: A journalist. An art dealer. At their wits’ ends over horrendous New York romances, they find each other through a personal ad. The twist? They’re both, in theory, straight girls. But when they click, they go for it — not sure why or even, for that matter, what they’re doing.
Along the way, they suffer the confusion of too-liberal Jewish mothers, baffled exes, flirtatious bosses, family weddings, and scandalized friends. Come to think of it, what’s so untraditional about that? Written by the two co-stars, the film is smart, sweet, and hilarious.
Sigh. If only we could find such nice qualities in our dates…
