Chop and Grind

Baby food: two four-letter words that conjure up images of jars of peas, carrots, beef Stroganoff, and prunes.

Those were the old days, before we were onto the power of food and the perils of preservatives. Before we delighted in collard greens, kale, and bok choy with drizzled ginger.

The Happy Baby Food Grinder lets you grind anything you’ve boiled, blanched, steamed, sauteed, or baked — from risotto to rutabagas — by hand. As in manually. As in no batteries or electricity required. Designed to puree one perfect baby portion (about five ounces), it has tiny holes that insure that no large lumps will slip through.

It comes with a baby spoon and fits neatly into a mini lunch-box-like carrying case. Best of all, the grinder doubles as a serving bowl. (One less thing to clean.)

And if you find yourself tempted to prepare some pureed sweet potato for yourself, go right ahead. While you’re at it, make an extra serving for us, too.
