Best of DailyCandy: Socie-tee

Socialites T-shirts

Happy holidays! For those of you not spending the week lying on a beach or zipping down the slopes, we feel your pain. As a little treat, we dug through the archives and came up with the Best of DailyCandy. Enjoy.

When you think of rock bands, you think hot, grungy, can’t-take-them-home-to-meet-the-parents guys. You don’t think private-school kids and hotel heiresses.

Until now. Chrissie Miller and Shawn Regruto, of “Models Suck” T-shirt fame, have a new It tee: a unisex black-and-white rocker shirt that’s part satire, part fashion — and all in the know.

Based on the logo of the band the Strokes, the shirts read, “The Socialites.” On the back? More tongue-in-cheek band info about the Who’s Your Daddy World Tour, which stops at the jet set’s hangouts: East Hampton, Bel Air, Gstaad, Palm Beach, St. Barth (and anywhere else P. Diddy docks his yacht).

The designers got the idea after seeing one too many heiresses swap their Miss Dior shirts for vintage YES tees. (Do they even know who YES is?) Celebrities and celebutantes already in the Socialites’ fan club include Nikki Hilton, Drea Matteo, Johnny Knoxville, and Brian McFadden.

The best part? Most of the members of the Strokes attended stuffy private schools and have probably skied Gstaad more than once.

A bit too close to home? Yeah. But laughing at yourself is a very trendy thing to do.
