Signs are for losers.
Or so many an L.A. bar would have us believe. Want to open a super exclusive place? Make sure nobody can find it.
Apparently, signless chic isn’t just for nightlife. Camille Hudson, a shoe store on Hollywood Boulevard, is so unassuming that you’ve probably driven past it a hundred times without realizing it is there. No sign — save for the name in tiny letters on the window. And Hudson, an L.A.-based designer, isn’t doing a thing to debunk the whole no sign = cool theory. Her line of pointy-toe high heels and flats come in the best spring colors (bright yellow, blue, lavender, and white) and are sold alongside selections from other desirables like Kors, Jill Stuart, Gianna Meliani, Annie “O”, and FarylRobin. The space has a sparse, unfinished, industrial vibe. There’s even a DJ station, where the assistant buyer occasionally spins.
Jeez. What’s next? A velvet rope?
Camille Hudson, 4685 Hollywood Boulevard, at Vermont Avenue (323-953-0377).
