Fresh Air

You step out of the shower. Catch yourself in the mirror. Tousled hair, sexy snarl. Is it just you, or do you look like Eddie Van Halen? Instinctively, you scissor your legs in the air.

Who’s hot for teacher now?

‘Tis the season for the First Annual U.S. Air Guitar Championship. Start practicing your power windmills and polishing those licks. The East Coast regionals happen this Friday; the West Coast regionals and U.S. Finals will be held on June 28. Hopefuls should sign up online right away and bring the CD of their choice for the first round. Survivors slide (on their knees, no doubt) into the second round, where a panel of rock-industry veterans selects the songs for performance. The U.S. champ wins a ticket to Finland for a chance at global domination. Don’t have the ‘nads to perform? Then just come cheer. Everyone needs groupies.

What’s the scene going to be? Spandex, mullets, sweat, and tears. That guitar may be invisible, but — hot damn! — can you feel the electricity?
