Tribeca Grand

Here comes the neighborhood. (Again!)

Straight to what will no doubt become Tribeca’s newest canteen: Landmarc, which opens today in the space formerly occupied by the Independent.

Chef Marc Murphy, formerly of Cellar in the Sky and Layla, is clearly a neighborhood boy. Which isn’t to say he hasn’t logged his share of frequent-flier miles. The menu, a mix of French and Italian bistro staples, pays homage to a childhood spent shuttling between the two countries (dad was a diplomat): duck confit with white beans, roasted monkfish in a tomato and black olive sauce, mushroom risotto, and six kinds of steak. There’s a pasta for every day (we cheer carbonara’s comeback), not to mention Froggie faves like boudin noir, steak tartare, and crispy sweetbreads.

The warm yet industrial space has exposed I-beams and an open-fire oven on the first floor, skylights and a funky private booth on the second.

You and your posse (and your brood, who will love the special kids’ menu) will settle into your favorite table soon enough.

Landmarc, 179 West Broadway, between Leonard and Worth Streets (212-343-3883).
