Some of us have been on the high-protein kick all our lives.
For instance, true carnivores know that the pleasure of a perfectly aged, impeccably prepared steak needs no embellishment or accompaniment. For such red-meat enthusiasts, the new outpost of Boa in Santa Monica is sure to please. The ocean-adjacent sister to the Grafton-based original features the same excellent selection of steaks, served à la carte and, if you insist, accompanied by your choice of sauce (bordelaise, green peppercorn, chimichurri) or topper (blue cheese, foie gras). Order up an inventive potable from the cocktail menu (the Blackberry Smash, with blackberry liqueur and fresh blackberries, sounds divine) and you’re pretty much set. For those (also known as “wimps”) who prefer the ritual of adornment, there’s plenty to choose from, including traditional sides like mac and cheese, creamed spinach, pommes frites, and composed entrées, like sauteed New Zealand John Dory in a bouillabaisse with clams, mussels, and calamari or Indonesian-spiced lamb chops with caramelized cauliflower, baby fennel, and cilantro-yogurt sauce. Of course, there’s always the option of adding the ol’ “surf” to your “turf.” For those who want to pay homage to the view out the window.Boa Steakhouse, 101 Santa Monica Boulevard, at Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica (310-899-4466).
