Something for Nothing

It’s the first week of the new year. You’re feeling blue from the absence of champagne-induced merrymaking and broke from the aftermath of gift-giving mayhem.

Oh, for something festive. Something quixotic. Something very, very cheap.

What you need is Something for Rockets. The mod, electronically driven band delivers the best after-party party music in town. We’ve got the fever for frontman Rami Perlman (yep, Itzhak’s son) and his hypnotic, soulful voice. Rami built Something for Rockets with Brown classmate Josh Eichenbaum (who operates the keyboard and laptop). After a nice ride on the airwaves (103.1, KCRW, KXLU), they found themselves drummer Barry Davis and produced their first full-length album.

The sound? Thick, rollicking choruses, swooping techno drum beats, and heavy, plunging bass lines. The gig? At Spaceland through January. Which guarantees at least three week’s worth of free (yes, admission is $0), hip-shaking intoxication.

Just the something you’ve been looking for.

Something for Rockets will be performing Mondays through January 31 at Spaceland, 1717 Silver Lake Boulevard, between West Silver Lake Boulevard and Swan Place (323-661-4380 or somethingforrockets.com).
