Sense and Sensibility

Hey, you. Ready for your sensory mission?

(And, no, you don’t have to walk around Neiman Marcus blindfolded.)

Head over to Americano restaurant, where all five senses will get a full-on workout. Feast your peepers on the restaurant’s gorgeous space: the circular cocktail lounge, the natural-chic dining room designed by Colum McCartan (of Hotel Adagio fame), the views of the Bay Bridge. Feel the cushy ultrasuede seating. Enjoy your aperitifs on the outdoor patio, and take in the surrounding aromatherapy garden’s scents.

Your taste buds, of course, get the peak experience. Executive chef Paul Arenstam (formerly of the Grand Cafe) uses fresh ingredients from the Ferry Building Marketplace for his Italian-Californian menu, which is highlighted by pizza Margarita (with nopales, jalapeno peppers, fontina cheese, and a squeeze of lime), roasted Sonoma duck breast, and apple crostata. After dinner, sample homemade gelatos from Americano’s gelato cart.

And don’t forget to listen to the buzz around you as you take it all in.
