The Big Cheese

Cheesy. These days, the term conjures images of tanorexic bimbos with giant ta-tas clad in midriffs and miniskirts.

But maybe it’s time to get back to its literal meaning. Like “cheese,” as in “cheddar,” as in “cow.” And there’s no one better to take you there than curds expert Judy Creighton.

Attend one of Creighton’s monthly Tasting Tours at Leonard’s 2001, and you’re in for a treat. Each month she focuses on a specific region of the world. Classes commence with a bit of culinary history and an appetizer (pate, anyone?). Then the journey begins. You’ll taste ten cheeses — each from a different area within the region du jour — paired with a wine and condiment (cornichon, mustard, jam).

Sign up for the April 12 class and get up close and personal with stinky stuff from Italy. On May 10, the lesson will cover the quesos of Spain.

Best to register now, too, as she takes only 15 students per class. If you miss the boat, Creighton will do a private tasting in your very own home.

But please, no cheesy crowds.

To sign up, call Leonard’s 2001, 2001 Polk Street, at Pacific Avenue (415-921-2001). To schedule a private party, e-mail Judy Creighton at mzcheeze@comcast.net.
