Hair Apparent

When you’re born with a name like Michael Angelo, you really don’t want to end up being bad at what you do.

Luckily, what church ceilings were to the sixteenth century, hair is to the twenty-first.

And so, like so many heat-seeking Medicis, we settle into the waitlist at Michael Angelo’s Wonderland Beauty Parlor, the Meatpacking District’s newest spot from the white-hot hair guy. (Angelo is Robert Kree’s former creative director.)

Once you get inside (no small feat: Rumor has it that one actress recently chained herself to the door until she got an appointment) the fun begins. Dreamy? Heck, yeah. A pink reception desk (next to the fuchsia neon sign, the cascading floral arrangement, and the plush cheetah statue holding court). Vintage movies projected on the back wall. Barbie mermaids swimming above the sinks.

A Renaissance masterpiece? Not quite.

But at least you know you’ll be leaving with the Sistine Chapel of hairdos.
