Gone to Pot
Firmly Planted Garden Site
In theory, a garden is a great idea. Growing something is undeniably gratifying. But the process — the digging, the backache, the dirt — well, such a pity to muss a good manicure.
Which is not to say you can’t have lush, Sissinghurst-worthy blooms gracing your foyer or spilling onto the rooftop terrace. Garden editor and horticulturalist Kevin Reiner’s newly launched mail-order business, Firmly Planted, sells inspired, ready-designed arrangements that are as easy to grow as a Chia Pet. All you do is provide the container and a little potting soil — and faster than you can say “green thumb” you have your own private Eden.
Each collection has a distinct effect. Sweet Summer, a grouping with bold splashes of magenta and white, recalls Gram’s charming Nantucket beach house. And nothing pairs better with a pinot noir than the full, rich foliage of Reiner’s Wine Dancer composition. Afternoon tea on the lawn? Serve the English Elegance arrangement with Earl Grey and finger sandwiches.
Afternoon delight? A hot, sweaty gardener passing you fresh berries and clotted cream.
