In the Mix

You’re a cautious combiner.

Navy with black? Heaven forbid. White wine with steak? Only in a pinch. Kissing on the first date? Never, thanks much.

Time to loosen up, oh squeamish one.

Hit Fuse, the new two-story Tex-Asian restaurant in downtown’s renovated Dallas Power & Light Building. Blaine Staniford’s menu combines Texas bravado with sophisticated Asian flavor. The results are rope ’em-and-ride ’em dishes with subtle Eastern twists — like the miso barbecued short ribs (with Yukon Gold potatoes, bell peppers, and Texas 1015 onions) and the braised brisket pot stickers (with roasted Anaheim chilies and citrus dipping sauce).

The space is just as crossbred: The building’s original art deco columns, staircases, and metalwork are in subtle earth tones; bamboo, Buddha statues, and waterfalls abound. The warm Texas hospitality and soothing Asian vibe make Fuse a great spot for group dinners, family affairs, or even a daring first date.

What you do at the end is still up to you.
