Delta Delta Delta

The words “sorority girls conjure two horrific fashion images.

Muffy and Bunny in over-the-shoulders sweaters, pearls from Daddy, and perky ponytails. (Gosh, how you wish you’d got in.) And skanks dancing topless in Girls Gone Wild videos. (Gosh, how you wish you’d got in.)

But Tag & Tom is redefining sorority couture with a line of necklaces, earrings, and belts. The designers, two Duke University “sisters,” fashion bold, colored-pearl jewelry with ribbon ties (instead of clasps) that free them from their usual debutante stigma.

The necklaces come in three or four strands and such unusual color combos as green and olive, mauve and purple, bronze and chocolate, and silver and black; and belts are double- or single-strand in similar schemes. And since the designers haven’t forgotten their Greek roots (charity was a must), they’re donating ten percent of sales from all pink pearl jewelry to breast cancer research.

And you thought the only thing coeds did with breasts was flash them to camera-wielding strangers.
