About Face

Perhaps it was the lack of a reception at the reception desk. Or, just maybe, the plastic glove-clad aesthetician at the door yelling, “Next!”

But your last facial seemed a wee bit impersonal. In fact, a lot of them seem that way these days.

The cure: Brandie Baker, who recently opened Akasha, a mini spa with a cozy little cocoon bed right in her home in Porter Square. Though still every bit professional, there isn’t an impersonal thing about Baker’s treatments.

Unlike most salon-based facialists, Baker doesn’t limit herself to one product line, so every client gets a customized appointment built around his or her needs — determined during a pre-treatment consultation followed by a peek through the big magnifying glass of truth. Then it’s on to extractions and a long, sleep-inducing massage.

Add that to Baker’s sweet disposition, not to mention her other services — waxing, back cleansing, and ear candling — and you don’t just feel cared for.

You feel like moving in.
