Best of 2005: Always a Dull Moment

Hear that? It’s the tune of 2006. Before we dive in, a shout-out to our favorites from 2005. Feel free to hum along.

Did you know all polar bears are left-handed?

Or that the average escalator carries up to 5,000 people an hour?

These are just a few of the earth-shattering facts compiled by members of the Dull Men’s Club. It’s an organisation easy enough to join — simply log on to the official website and revel in the life of the dullard.

The airport carousel section, for example, is gripping: Out of 357 airports studied, 45.7 percent have carousels that move counterclockwise.

‘Duct’ tape or ‘duck’ tape? You, too, can join the debate. There are some really boring postcards on show, a suggested reading list (Men and Sheds is a must-buy this summer), instructions on how to boil water and nominations for Pylon of the Month.

There are also some fabulously dumb jokes. (How do you make an egg roll? Push it). And the history of gift wrapping is also worth a peek. These dull men are nothing if not highly thorough.

And democratic, too: anyone can join the club.

Provided they’re dull enough, of course.
