The Ivy League

With apologies to Tears For Fears, everybody does not want to rule the world. Not really.

Rather, everybody just wants to chill out.

At least they do upon entering Ivy, the brand new, happening but laid-back Italian restaurant in the Ladder District.

The suavely appointed, notably posh interior includes three softly lit levels of sleek tables and red leather seating. In another joint, that could be a setup for irksome pretension and hipper-than-thou ’tude. But here it’s the backdrop to friendly service plus flavorful plates of gorgonzola-and-truffle mac ’n’ cheese, rich risottos, and hearty pastas (many of which are served family style).

Moreover, the respectable wine list sets every last bottle at a price ($24) bound to make you order two — and in the process, feel like a captain of industry.

In other words, a very chilled out ruler of the world.
