Wherever You Go, There You Are

We applaud you for being so laid-back. Nothing gets you going.

But getting you to choose a spot for dinner is like waiting for paint to dry. It’s always, “Hmmmmm, I don’t care. Wherever.”

Which was exactly what artist and curator Dan Devening had in mind when he conceptualized Wherever. Devening asked seventeen artists (including well-known Chicago types like Tony Tasset and Laura Letinsky, as well as up-and-comers like New Catalogue and Julia Hechtman) to riff on the idea of “wherever.” The results are as varied in theme as they are in medium — drawings, opaque watercolor flowers on handmade paper, photography, small form sculpture.

Interested in checking it out but not sure you can make it to the big opening? No worries: The exhibit isn’t attached to a gallery, rather it comes to wherever is easiest for you. Browse online from your living room, schedule an appointment to meet Devening at his studio, or he’ll even bring it to your home or office. The pieces ranges in price from $400 to $1,500, a steal for critically recognized artists. But the prices probably wouldn’t faze you anyway.

You know: ten cents or a thousand dollars. Hmmmm, whatever.
