You don’t go to the hardware store for oranges. You never shop for tires at the dry cleaner. And the one time you tried to buy falafel at a newsstand, you were very, very drunk.
So why would you go to Staples for art?
Because the Washington Project for the Arts\Corcoran is presenting an exhibition there — or, to be exact, in the space that was formerly the Georgetown Staples.
Wall Snatchers showcases works by street and graffiti artists from New York, Boston, Florida, and D.C. Check out the mural by collective Faile, the video installation by Fi5e, the tiny hearts and huge lettering by Mister Never and Nick Z.
And if the whole exhibit-in-an-office-supply-store concept seems counterintuitive, just wait till it hits you that you’ve gone indoors to look at street art.
The mind reels.
Former Staples store, 3307 M Street NW, between 33rd and 34th Streets (202-639-1828 or wpaconline.org). Opening reception, February 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Exhibition through March 26.
