A Starfish Is Born

A BYOB Dairy Queen serving fresh trout? Sure, we could be telling you a fish tale.

Or talking about Starfish, the new restaurant opening this afternoon (4:30 p.m. to be exact)  in Oak Cliff.

It’s serving up delicious fried fish baskets inside a revamped DQ from the 1960s. Gone are the red canopies, but the large picture windows remain. Which means you can get a good look at the cantaloupe-colored walls inside.

The simple menu relies mainly on the deep fryer, but you can also choose dishes like homemade gumbo, Cajun meatloaf, or fresh grilled salmon and trout (served with a side of rice pilaf or boiled new potatoes). And because you can bring your own alcohol, drinks can be made any way you’d like.

Just don’t try to pass yourself off as the bartender after a couple of strong ones.

Because that would seem a little fishy.
