First Words

Lord knows, little kids have a lot to say.

If only they could, you know, talk.

But they can let their clothing convey their thoughts with the sassy kiddie tees that have caught our eye lately.

Appaman has all manner of rad statement-making tops: El Caminos and Che Guevara for boys; bubble motifs and floral fireworks for girls.

Three dads who were sick of boring shirts recently started Kidioms. Their cotton designs have cunning little semiotic plays — “Sweet” under a picture of a pea, “Magnet” under a chick, “Stud” under a muffin.

The declarations made by the appropriately named Uncommonly Cute give little folk big attitude. Our favorites: “King of the Little People” and “Freshly Baked” for preemies.

Those already familiar with the edgy slogans of Wry Baby won’t be surprised to see that their latest (“I heart my moms” and “Someday I’ll egg a house”) are equal parts adorable and wiseass.

Not at all unlike someone else you know.
