Hide and seek always seemed like a good idea — until your triumphant laughter (“Ha ha ha. They’ll never find me!”) turned to a pouty face (“I bet they’re not even looking anymore.”).
But in hindsight you see the flaws in a game where you hang out by yourself in the dark for an undetermined amount of time.
Sam Nazarian of SBE and Brent Bolthouse have solved this age-old problem with Hyde, a new West Hollywood lounge where you’ll never be alone. Rosy and warm, the space has copper leafed vaulted arched ceilings, low cognac crocodile-embossed banquets, rich wood tables , comfy red faux-croc cushioned ottomans, and a calla lily candle wall.
With room for only 100 patrons, the post-10 p.m. door situation is likely to be tough (man with clipboard, velvet rope, lots of frowny people walking away). Try going early (like 7 p.m.) for a post-work hang. Once inside, order from the Katsuya-engineered menu of Asian-inspired bar food and sip modern versions of old-fashioned cocktails.
Your pals will now know just where to find you.
Whether you want to be found is a whole other matter entirely.
Hyde Lounge, 8029 West Sunset Boulevard, at Crescent Heights Boulevard, West Hollywood (323-656-4933).
