Some things in life are much more desirable when they aren’t as sweet as can be.
For instance? Men, certainly. (No one is more annoying than Mr. I’m Soooo Sensitive.) Sappy chick flicks. (Perfectly sweet endings? Barf.) And don’t even get us started on the sound of a pseudo-acquaintance’s voice when she wants to sound psyched to see you. (Take it down an octave, witch.)
One more: cookies.
Which is why we can’t get enough of the Salty Oats and Chocolate Salty Oats from Kayak Cookies. Made from organic oats, organic whole wheat flour, Belgian bittersweet and unsweetened chocolate, and coconut, these things would probably be addictive enough without their key (unexpected) ingredient.
But in a true eureka moment, when company founder Terri Horn randomly sprinkled her chewy cookies with salt to remind her of the ocean air, she discovered flavor in a new stratosphere. The salty-sweet combo is to die for.
They’re a perfect treat anytime.
But especially after an encounter with that saccharine frenemy.
Available at South End Formaggio, 268 Shawmut Avenue (617-350-6996 or kayakcookies.com).
