The Anglo File

Through the years, America’s done its fair share to separate from the British Empire.

But lately, we seem to be doing everything we can get back in Her Majesty’s good graces. Obsessed with the McCartney breakup, Kate’s mishaps, and Jude and Sienna’s roller coaster, Americans have never been more fixated on our motherland.

And tomorrow comes the latest bit of Brit wit: the opening of Reiss, the newest outpost (and the second stateside) of the UK label.

Part Marc Jacobs, part Zegna, the shop overflows with smart, sexy frocks and accessories for men and women. Like flowy A-line skirts, inky dresses with matching sequined scarves, and chic pencil skirts paired with silk tanks delicately detailed with floral patterns. Also in store: large-collared jackets, filmy blouses, and perfectly fitted power suits that won’t break the bank.

They’re the kind of pieces that make a workday feel fun, a play date feel important, and a tea party feel a wee bit rebellious.

Not that we would ever do that again.
