Go ahead: Give thanks for all that meaningful stuff like family and good health. But while you’re at it, give thanks that there are people out there willing to roast a turkey and do all the cleanup — so you don’t have to. Here, instead of our usual weekend guide, is a list of our favorites.
You won’t need to lift a finger (except to pick up the phone) if you dial Savenor’s Market and order the entire spread to go. Besides the classic turkey, they’ll cook up novelties like a turducken (a turkey stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken — it’s heaven, really), a goose, quail, or even caribou — and top it off with sides of dried fruit stuffing and cranberry chutney.
Also offering takeout feasts: The Butcher Shop. The creative kitchen’s whipping up organic Vermont turkeys, truffled pommes puree, and free-form apple-walnut pies. Or order your finale online from Pie in the Sky, an annual fundraiser that supports Community Servings.
Rather avoid hosting altogether? Dante is doling out a prix fixe menu of free-range, hormone-free turkey flanked by the likes of wild mushroom tart and gorgonzola dolce-stuffed pear. At Pigalle, luxury’s the word — starting with the cream of chestnut soup right down to the foie gras with Armagnac-soaked prunes. On a more casual note, Temple Bar is serving up roasted pumpkin bisque with apple caponata, turkey with chestnut stuffing, and pumpkin cheesecake napoleon.
Want to prove you can dish out a smokin’ spread with the best of ’em? Order a la carte from Redbones — the smoked turkey with stuffing and gravy feeds eight to ten people. Then sit back and take the credit while guests rub their bellies in awe.
And give all the thanks to you.
