Today’s to-do item: Find something (anything) for your place that the Alessi/Starck/Adler-obsessed won’t mock. (Aw. Baby. You’re not really nouveau trashy.)
You’ll be (tastefully) covered with a visit to Context.
The new store — equal parts art gallery and retail space — is the perfect place to experiment with under-the-radar home design.
Owners Jeffrey Shelley and Pui Panich have filled the brick-walled downtown space with charming and unexpected vignettes: Stamped leather Cappellini chairs nestle up to Day-Glo modular shelves; wicker Gervasoni fans accent translucent chairs and ottomans.
Grab a glass of wine (they keep it handy for guests) and peruse the design library before you go. The duo combines encyclopedic knowledge with an anti-design-snob attitude.
And that’s something to write home about.
Context, 75 John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, Downtown (404-477-3301 or contextgallery.com).
