When it comes to building suspense, nothing beats a drumroll.
So without further ado, we present details about this bangin’ weekend: Vice and JellyNYC (known for filling waterless pools with live bands) are producing a free, once-in-a-lifetime, 77-minute performance featuring 77 tribal/afro/break beat/jazzy/rocking/dub-fueled drummers, this Saturday (07/07/07) under the Brooklyn Bridge.
At the helm of the madness: the Boredoms, a 20-year-old avant-garde Japanoise rock band. They’ve asked NYC drummers to help create a cacophonic “live sculpture” called 77BoaDrum. Experimental? That’s an understatement.
About those sevens. In Japan, the digit represents a cosmic connection with the sun and its sound.
We suggest going early with six friends (to make seven), as Gang Gang Dance is warming up the crowd with a DJ set before unleashing the hyperactive army of slap-happy rhythmic freaks.
Beat that.
