Which is what we thought about the fedora — until Asli Filinta tossed her hats into the ring.
A Turkish sweetheart with a nonconformist edge, Filinta designs whimsical toppers in her Brooklyn apartment. The chapeaux start with basic forms (fedora, riding hat) then get gussied up with details from Istanbul (appliques, feathers, metallic trims).
Butterfly Mornings, a straw cap adorned with a dainty flower and gemmed insect, is the proper accessory for Sunday best. Albert has colorful quills and a zebrafied elephant. Our favorite, Holiday, is a jaunty mix of lace, plumes, beads, and sequins on a purplish trilby.
Such intricacies never go out of style.
