The Weekend Guide

What to Do This Weekend

gone to carolina in my mind!

Half an hour from Charleston, South Carolina, you’ll find some of the most beautiful beaches that side of the Mason Dixon. Here are a few of our favorite things on Kiawah Island and nearby.

What: The stunning 4-year-old beachfront manse features a full-service spa, the swanky Ocean Room restaurant, three swimming pools, and unobstructed views of the Atlantic.
Why: It’s a religious experience.
Where: 1 Sanctuary Beach Dr., Kiawah Island (877-683-1234). Map It

EAT
Rosebank Farms Cafe
What: Fill up on fried green tomatoes; fried catfish; and, oh, yellow hominy grits.
Why: If they ain’t gonna fry it, you ain’t gonna try it.

Vincent’s Drug Store
What:
Harken back to simpler times at the old-fashioned soda fountain-cum-pharmacy serving the best malts and burgers around.
Why: It’s more than a soda, jerk.
Where: Freshfields Village, 110 Planted Row Ln., Johns Island (843-243-0007). Map It

VISIT
Stono Farm Market

Get your veggies, herbs, and plants from the best farmers market around. And if it’s strawberry season, pick your own at their farm in nearby Wadmalaw.
