Being a moody bitch has its advantages: the free time that comes from not having to return friends’ calls, the glee you get when matching your snark with your bite.
All that brooding looks better in a Grai jacket.
Inspired by insects and their exoskeletons — specifically a rhino beetle’s — Maya Yogev’s fall collection is a drama of proportions.
The designer sets off waspy waists, wing-like collars, and lapels with spindly latex-swathed legs. Leather and wool cloaking gets cinched with belts or buckles to create a stern Victorian aesthetic.
Yogev intended for her jackets to evoke a protective sanctuary: She cites Nosferatu’s (cheer up, buddy) castle as her inspiration. On bad days, Mattea’s laces would make a glamorous and worthy retreat.
And when someone compliments your new attire?
Just tell them to bug off.
