Set in Stone

Give someone a necklace and they sparkle for a day; teach them to make a necklace and they’ll start their own line.

Case in point: local jewelry designer Daniela Swaebe. Raised by two gemologists, she grew up studying stones around the world. The knowledge shows in her eponymous line, which playfully uses gems in designs ranging from dramatic to dainty.

From the wowzer group are the fleur-de-lys charms (an egg-shaped sapphire, garnet, amethyst, or other gem wrapped in a diamond-speckled gold crest) and the turquoise rings (oversize blue baubles in antique-looking settings).

On the delicate side is the new Tribal collection: gold flower or butterfly charms that hang prettily from simple chains — or one with inlaid pearls.

Daniela can also custom design a piece or redo an heirloom brooch. All her work gets loads of compliments.

No fishing required.
