Unlike Clinton, you always inhale. Next time you’re jonesing, hit the Taco Joint.
The new East Dallas eatery is owned by Austin transplant Corey McCauley and Chuy’s alum Jeffrey Kowitz. There’s no blowing smoke at the laid-back Tex-Mex restaurant: They deal only simple staples like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas.
Not much is low cal (albeit there’s a trio of salads), especially the Disaster queso with ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo. However, there are vegetarian and gluten-free options including the Sophie taco with carrots, potatoes, zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and cheese.
Saturdays call for high times thanks to the all-day breakfast menu. Keep munchies at bay with the intoxicating Great Gordo (scrambled eggs and bacon wrapped in a tortilla) or the Five-Alarm option that also tosses in chorizo and hot sauce.
One hit and you’ll be hooked.
Taco Joint, 911 North Peak Street (214-826-8226 or thetacojoint.com).
