Head Case

If laundry detergent and hair products worked as promised, we’d sport glossy manes while picking flowers and Snuggle Bear would scrub till his paws bled.

Instead, we see Alan Gold about Nigelle HY — a twice-yearly hair treatment (with a name that sounds remarkably like yeast infection medicine).

Gold uses seven different concoctions, each doing something specific (filling weak spots, adding shine, mending breakage, rehydrating). Damp strands are flat-ironed to seal in the good stuff, then protein- and keratin-infused conditioners are applied to spots where hair is still porous.

Since the treatment surrounds strands (and you take home four weeks’ worth of conditioner), color doesn’t fade and styles keep shape longer. So you can push your trims to every six weeks instead of four.

Giving you more time to do your wash.
