Golden Girl

The thing you miss most about home is your sweet ol’ granny. The tough broad drinks like a fish and swears like a sailor.

And though no one can take her place, you can still bask in the glory of the AARP set by volunteering at Miami Jewish Home and Hospital.

Some people’s grandkids are lousy, good-for-nothings — take their places through the Friendly Visitor Program. You’ll be paired with an elderly resident for quality one-on-one time. Practice your long-lost penmanship skills by writing letters, read aloud from a beloved book, or simply listen to a little old-fashioned wisdom (“… and that’s why sailors are better than pilots”).

If you’re more of a group gal, assist during arts and crafts or entertain by playing an instrument or singing.

’Cause good company never grows old.
