Have you lost your mind? Look for it under that insanely whimsical chapeau you’re wearing. More theatrical millinery can be found at the new basement atelier of Bond 07 by Selima, where Noho’s famed optical maven showcases a collection of hats with longtime French muse/designer Virginie Promeyrat. The vision: humorous, stylized, atypical bespoke looks at off-the-rack prices. Each crown is measured to your head; hand-blocked; and trimmed with buttons, appliques, and other tidbits of your choice, then packed in a lavender hat box. For spring, don unisex bowlers and straw fedoras in bright Caribbean colors (aqua, royal blue, magenta) with French ribbon. We’re aye-eying summer’s navy maritime caps with brass trim. There’s also a bridal and cocktail collection (top hats, cloches, fascinators) embellished with the kind of feathers, tassels, and lace passementerie that could shut down a Chelsea parade. Hats off to that. Hats by Selima, 7 Bond Street, between Lafayette Street and Broadway, basement (917-668-1317). For appointments, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
