Knocked Up

Oh, oh. Did you hear the news?

Someone’s got a bun in the oven. And (oh, heavens) it’s not the first time.

After a 122-year wait, Somerville bakery Lyndell’s announces the arrival of its second location today in the North End — kindly filling the need Lulu’s left for a sugary shop.

But don’t blame the milkman: Two master bakers are in charge. And with decades of experience baking, frosting, kneading, and decorating under their apron strings, the rest of the crew makes everything from scratch.

Fog up the old school-style bakery’s glass cases while you decide between the apple pockets, bread pudding, raspberry crumble, half-moon cookies, or more than a dozen varieties of bread. The shop even sells almond macaroons and biscotti by the pound.

Just what you’ve been expecting.

Lyndell’s, 227 Hanover Street, North End (617-720-2200).
