Nature's Calling

Next up in our summer expert series: Maia Toll of The Apothecary Garden shares a few natural ways to cure warm weather ailments.

Purple Power
Don’t leave home without a small bottle of lavender essential oil. Its healing qualities make it perfect for dotting on boo-boos and bug bites. Plus, the calming scent eases jangled nerves.

Itchin’ and Scratchin’
Poison ivy is an itchy situation. Resist the urge to rinse a rash with plain water; instead, rub dish soap on the affected areas, then wash with cool water. After, make a paste with baking soda and water and flake it off when dry.

Heat Wave
Helichrysum hydrosol is a great way to soothe sun-addled skin. Grab a bottle, fill a mister, and liberally spray to lessen the pain.

That oughta take the sting out of things.
