Got a passion for beard trimming, home pickling, rooftop farming, and other 19th-century-inspired pastimes? Looking for a country store to round out your shopping needs?
Out in the countryside (Williamsburg), a clever Maine- and London-bred duo hunkered down, got themselves a plot of land, and opened Brook Farm General Store, a modern rendition of the small-town classic.
The clean, light-filled space is filled with recycled rubber baskets, Picardie French bistro glasses, and hand-loomed baby blankets from Maine. Along with the eclectic mix of old and new goodies, the shop owners have their own line of organic hand soaps, lotion, bath oils, and a selection of organic teas. Be sure to stay tuned for their latest: table and kitchen linen.
Though you might walk in just to browse, you’ll most likely leave with a new purchase — convinced that it was, indeed, a necessity.
We’re all in favor of getting back to basics.
Brook Farm General Store, 75 South 6th Street, between Berry and Wythe Streets, Williamsburg (718-388-8642 or brookfarmgeneralstore.com).
