Treatments at the Gateway Plaza salon go something like this:

1. Have wet hair set with curling rods, which get clipped to a negative ion hub.

2. Sit for one hour or so in Medusa-like limbo while rollers heat up and ionize. Cool for fifteen minutes.

3. Apply neutralizer. Wash out.

4. Fling about formerly stick-straight, chemically virgin hair in throws of permanently bodacious, bed-headed ecstasy.

It’s anything but a blast from the past.

It might even be the wave of the future.
