Starry-Eyed Surprise

festive garland!

The trick to enjoying the holidays: Never let little hands go idle. Unless you want pinkie fingers in fruitcakes and a toppled Christmas tree.

Clementine Art — the craftastic, Colorado-based company behind a range of all-natural, nontoxic art supplies — offers this seasonal project to keep tots busy.

Festive Star Garland
For ages 4+ (adult supervision required)

Supplies
Thick, plain paper (i.e., shirt cardboard, card stock, paper grocery bags)
Scissors (pinking shears are fun)
Natural soy crayons
Natural glue and glitter (optional)
Embroidery floss or string (bright colors are best)
Needle (with large eye)
Pom-poms (or buttons, wool felt balls, cranberries, popcorn)

1. Cut stars out of heavy paper using scissors. Let Junior help (funky stars are more fun).

2. Color the stars on both sides with crayons. Add glue and sprinkle with glitter for holiday sparkle.

3. String embroidery floss on needle. Double it and tie a knot in the end.

4. Thread alternating stars and pom-poms (or other embellishment) onto string: Poke the needle right through the middle of the star, then through the middle of the pompom. Don’t worry: The challenge helps develop strength and coordination in tiny fingers.)

5. Hang the garland in your child’s bedroom, on the tree, or on the mantel.

And party arty.
