The word “cancer” makes you want to scream every four-letter word in the book.
Including “love,” thanks to Nina Wexler. The breast cancer survivor knitted like a banshee while undergoing treatment and has turned her hobby into a business called Free Fingers, which is a line of fingerless gloves, handmade by Wexler and her team of gals.
Each pair is unique and made out of merino, silk, cashmere, and alpaca yarn. Unlike most stitch-and-bitch groups, this one consists of students on scholarship, widows, victims of layoffs, and retired workers making hand warmers for a good cause.
As if that’s not commendable enough, Free Fingers donates 100 percent of profits to breast cancer research foundations.
Which brings to mind a six-letter word: thanks.
