There are times when elaborate decoration is expected, if not called for (see: Elizabethan love letters, imminent Oprah retrospectives).
But Standard Finery will do on any occasion, for the tiny local label includes bustiers, blazers, and bloomers that make us want to celebrate (anything at all).
NYC designer Caron Callahan picked up a thing or two about pattern-making and textiles working at Barneys, Derek Lam, and Tracy Feith. Her first spring collection is ready for order, and we wanted to sound the trumpets.
We’re head over heels for the clever blousing effect of the attached-camisole dresses (in pastels with graphic black binding). And the ’50s-style jackets, graphic T-strap backs, four-ply crepe, and open-pocket pants? We salute them.
In all their finery.
Available at Castor & Pollux, 238 West 10th Street, between Hudson and Bleecker Streets (212-645-6572 or castorandpolluxstore.com). To see styles, check out the gallery. Trunk show shopping party (Marlow & Sons snacks!), December 10, 6-9 p.m.
