Got a bee in your bonnet?
Get it out and into an urban hive courtesy of Honey Bees at Home. The bespoke beekeeping service will install an apiary with a queen and nucleus of workers. And, for a small monthly fee, maintain it, remove the honey (from the frame or complete with honeycomb) and jar it.
Not only does the service help the shrinking bee population — a major environmental crisis (the insects are essential for pollination) — but the local, unpasteurised honey also works as a natural hay fever remedy. Set up a colony by the end of April, and you’re likely to see nectar by the close of summer.
The only catch? You must have a garden, terrace, roof deck or some outside space big enough to house it.
Sorry to be a buzzkill.
