Usually, retail therapy is an oxymoron. (We’ve yet to meet an overpriced handbag that actually makes us feel better about ourselves.)
But Mary’s Living and Giving Shop, a partnership between Save the Children and journalist/retail expert/TV personality Mary Portas, begs to differ.
Think of it as a regular charity store with a twist: rather than granny cardigans and dusty books, the sleek Westbourne Grove concept shop sells a curated collection of lifestyle products, fashion industry donations, press samples and end-of-season stock, with 100 per cent of sales benefiting the nonprofit.
Search the racks for covetable items by the likes of Chanel, French Connection and Issa. Initial finds included Christian Louboutin sneakers (£190), an Aquascutum trench (£438), Sass & Bide jeans (£50) and donations from nearby businesses and locals (hello, Sienna Miller’s castoffs).
Just try to donate something every time you shop to keep it stocked. Think of it as retail karma.
