The Weekend Guide

towne stove and spirits!

Paint the town red.

EAT
Towne Stove and Spirits
What:
Cooking icons Jasper White and Lydia Shire debut their first joint venture, a palatial, two-story establishment dishing global fare with a New England bent — razor clams a la plancha, spiced rib roast, fried milk, plus an extensive lobster menu (the duo’s shared obsession).
Why: Mention DailyCandy to order the off-menu Working Girl cocktail (white port, lemongrass syrup, soda, and lime) for $8 thru Aug. 7. It’s best enjoyed on the 90-seat patio.
When: Opens Fri. Daily, 11:30 a.m.-2 a.m.
Where: 900 Boylston St., Back Bay (617-247-0400).

SEE
Roxbury International Film Festival
What:
Fifty-plus features, documentaries, and shorts celebrating people of color, produced by both local and global filmmakers.
Why: An absorbing breadth of topics, including interracial adoption, gentrification, multiracial comedians, and Condi Rice.
When: Thru Sun.
Where: Locations and tickets ($8-$125) online at roxburyfilmfestival.org.

KNOCK YOURSELF OUT
Local Lists
What: Create, save, and share custom itineraries of DailyCandy-approved spots in your city.
Why: Our editors got you started with lists of their favorite haunts in their favorite hoods.
When: You want to plan a perfect shopping day, send out-of-towners a must-do list, or remember to check out new restaurants.
Where: Online at dailycandy.com.

PICK UP
Verrill Farm Sweet Corn Soup at Lumière
What:
One of the primo summer menu offerings from Newton’s dining linchpin is also available for takeout by the quart — and has invoked hoarding tendencies in at least one regular ($12).
Why: The roasted tomato, corn, and poblano pepper salsa garnish is included (and packaged separately for max freshness).
When: Mon.-Thurs., 5:30-9 p.m.; Fri., 5:30-10 p.m.; Sat., 5-10 p.m.; Sun., 5-9 p.m.
Where: 1293 Washington St., West Newton (617-244-9199).

PRIMP
Happy Hour for Hair at
Mizu
What:
Sleekify your tresses with a $50 blow-dry (reg. $75) while sipping salon-exclusive summer cocktails from M Bar.
Why: Heat-beating tonics like the MOdern (Pisco, St-Germain, lime juice, crushed grapes, and club soda) and the PoMO (Bols Genever, Pama liqueur, lemon juice, and prosecco).
When: Thru Sept. 6. Every Thurs. & Fri., 5-8 p.m.
Where: Mandarin Oriental, 776 Boylston St., Back Bay. Reservations (required) to 617-585-6498. Mention happy hour deal when reserving.
